The Guatemalan Volunteer Fire Department is an autonomous, apolitical public service institution, founded on August 16, 1951, at the initiative of His Excellency Rodrigo González Allendes, Ambassador of Chile to Guatemala. It was established in response to the need to protect the population from fires and emergencies, and since then has maintained uninterrupted service to the country.
Composed of men and women with a strong sense of volunteerism, the institution is governed by the principles of discipline, honor, and selflessness, providing timely assistance in fires, rescues, medical emergencies, and natural disasters. With over seven decades of history, it is a fundamental pillar in the protection of life and property in Guatemalan society.
